Coral reefs

Coral Reef Alliance works with divers, snorkellers, local communities and governments to protect and manage coral reefs and promote marine parks. It produces an excellent and comprehensive set of guidelines on good environmental practice for diving, snorkelling, and managing an ‘underwater clean-up’.

ReefCheck, founded in 1996, is dedicated to saving coral reefs globally and temperate reefs in California. It works in over 80 countries with volunteers, local communities, governments and businesses to monitor, restore and maintain coral reef health.

Bite-back has successfully campaigned to persuade supermarkets and restaurants in the UK to stop selling shark products. It has since also campaigned on other non-sustainable fisheries, including those for marlin, swordfish, monkfish and Orange Roughy.

Earthwatch, established in 1973, runs a wide variety of volunteer expeditions, including marine surveys for snorkellers and divers in the Bahamas, Jamaica and Belize.
